Services
NTech provides design consultation services focused on the aviation industry in and around Australasia and is certified by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAANZ) to provide approvals for modifications and repairs to existing rotorcraft and aircraft registered in New Zealand.
With our staff’s substantial combined experience within the industry, we offer pragmatic advice on the certification requirements of your aircraft modifications or repairs under New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority Regulation.
We approve modifications in-house by way of CAANZ Form 337 (only valid for New Zealand registered aircraft). More complex modifications may need prior CAANZ consent before we can approve them, but we manage this process as part of the project.
NTech is privately owned and is independent from other aviation organisations (such as maintenance organisations). However, as part of a large aviation network, NTech can draw on a wide range of expertise as required.
NTech offers specialist engineering support to fellow Design Organisations (DOs), and can access specialist engineering provided by fellow DOs where required.
NTech works with CAANZ (as/if required) to navigate any certification requirements or issues with your aircraft or component, for example:
Approving a repair that is outside of the OEM’s repair limits
Providing support with specific design effort, for instance if your fabricated parts require manufacturing drawings by reverse engineering
Applying for a Petition for an Exemption to CAANZ if your modification does not meet a regulation, for which we can propose an Equivalent Level of Safety (ELOS)
Flight Testing, including compiling flight test schedules (FTS) and applications for Experimental Permits
Providing the required design services and paperwork to return a grounded aircraft to airworthiness
Taking your modification to STC (Supplemental Type Certificate) Level.
All modifications and repairs processed and approved by NTech are fully backed.
If your modification or repair shows any sign of premature wear or failure, we will investigate and offer the necessary remedial action.
NTech’s services extend across a wide range of products (propellers, engines, aircraft, rotorcraft, gliders, balloons, etc), for example, we are the only organisation in New Zealand to provide approvals for The Vintage Aviator (TVA) aircraft.
We hold substantial records of all approval services provided since 1992 and can carry out an archive search if you need information on an old modification or repair.
The Design/Approval Process
Based on your needs, NTech will design (if required), assess, advise, review and check your aircraft repair or modification, and ultimately processes the approvals for your individual or fleet of aircraft, rotorcraft, engine, balloon, glider or propeller.
NTech delivers technical documentation (referred to as “approved data”), such as drawings and diagrams, installation instructions (Modification / Repair Bulletins), Flight Manual Supplements (FMS) and Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA). In addition, the required CAANZ airworthiness approval (Form 337), Statement of Compliance (SOC, required for every modification or repair), and Technical Assessment reports (TA) are generated.
During the certification process, we may request testing (ground or flight tests) for which we will issue formal test plans.
Depending on the scope of your modification request, NTech may liaise with CAANZ to advise and provide service within the legislative framework.
This offers options for aviation approvals via:
Form 337 under NTech’s delegated powers
NTech prepared data package for CAANZ approval by way of Alternative Means of Compliance (AMOC) to an Airworthiness Directive (AD)
Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for any modification
Parts Manufacturing Approval (PMA) for alternative parts in lieu of original manufacturer’s parts
Technical Standard Order (TSO) for component approvals
Petition for an exemption (if an aspect of a modification does not meet a regulation) for which we will propose an Equivalent Level of Safety (ELOS)
In all of the above, NTech is your partner of choice in achieving legal airworthiness by meeting all required regulations.
For every modification or repair with NTech SOC and approval by 337, NTech assumes responsibility for continued airworthiness for two years after your last modified aircraft has ended service.
In support of NTech’s established Safety Policy, our projects go through our quality assurance process which includes:
Classification of your modification as STC / Significant / Major / Minor, which determines the minimum quality standard.
The design change being a series or one-off modification, or a repair, which determines the level of detail required for drawings.
New design change or revision of an existing approved package, which allows for relying on past approved data.
Determination of manual supplements (flight / operations / maintenance) being necessary.
A thorough and detailed checking procedure is part of our approved procedure and culture, which ensures that all released documents are consistent and enhance safety.
NTech has an ‘open door’ policy and it is the responsibility of all staff to report to the CEO any incident, finding or safety concern that they may have.
NTech runs a CAANZ compliant Safety Management System (SMS).
